Reflection - Dana Point Ocean Institute
Please answer the following questions, reflecting on your experience today at the Ocean Institute, Dana Point.
2. What did you learn while on land at the Ocean Institute?
I learned that our ocean has dissolved oxygen which means that fish and many other sea animals can live in our ocean. We also learned that Jellyfish were actually called Jelly’s instead of Jellyfish because they are not fish.
3. What did you learn while on the boat at the Ocean Institute?
I learned that there are small living invertebrates in the ocean and that we might have swallowed a little bit while we were at the beach because you accidentally swallowed saltwater.
4. How do people’s actions affect the marine (ocean) ecosystem?
People impact sea animals life and the ocean by littering on land and that is caused by storm drains which means when it rains all the water takes the trash with it and the trash goes into the ocean. Also, intense fishing and pollution from boats which is probably a leak or something that oil can come out of.
5. How can you apply what you learned today to your life? Is there anything you can do to try and help our ocean, its ecosystem, and our Earth’s water supply?I can tell people to stop polluting because sea turtles accidentally eat plastic which means that they die because of that and are becoming endangered.I also learned that sometimes Jelly’s are mistaken by trash.

Water Testing Reflection
This is about the time we tested our habitat water.
- What was your prediction? My prediction was that the level would be about 0.03ppm to 0.06ppm.
- What was your result? My result was about 0 ppm to 0.03 ppm and the color was a light type of orange.
- What does the result show you about the backyard habitat? It means that the backyard is good that it has living organisms. It also means that there is some things that are good and some that are bad.
- How do we contribute positively or negatively to the water quality as a neighborhood community? It depends that if it has bacteria, or the right Ph level, sanity and the temperature.
- Go back to the intro video. Would you drink the habitat water? What have you learned so far? I probably wouldn't because I saw that one of the groups had bacteria and they said it was positive and that means that there is bacteria and in the video it look like there was bacteria too.
This is the time I went to the Safari park and about what I learned.

Safari Park Reflection
I think the experience was interesting because I wonder what type of machine or object they might use.The experiment connected with the IB unit because we did what the pH level was and then we did the same here at school. We also were split up into groups and each of us had on word on a type of quality to see if our wetland in the backyard habitat is healthy. We figured out that some parts of our water is healthy but that some is not healthy. In Safari park we did the same but they also did their tap water but they did the same with testing their wetlands too.
The thing that I found interesting was that Ammonia is something that can causes fish to die. That happens because the fish eventually start to poop and pee which causes Ammonia. We also found out that Safari Parks tap water does not have Ammonia which is safe to drink. Then we found out that the outcome was more bad than the income which means that there wetland has Ammonia which is not very safe. The last thing that I found that was interesting was the Chinchilla.
I found out that it is a endangered species. Also that back then during the gold rush chinchillas were used to make fur coats.I know that back then they used about 250 chinchillas to make one fur coat.I also found out that they drink only a small amount of water and eat grass. That is what I learned at the trip to the Safari Park.

Safari Park Reflection
- Please write a 2-3 paragraph Reflection about your experience at Safari Park.
- What was your experience like, learning about how Safari Park recycles their water?
- How does what you learned connect to our IB Unit of Study?
- For each paragraph, be sure to include a topic sentence and supporting details.

Reflecting on IB Profile
I am caring because when something happens I fix it. I am reflective because I have many strengths. I also know when I have my limits.I am a communicator because I speak different languages. That is how I am a reflective, caring, and a communicator.
